Abstract

The ongoing digital transformation of libraries signals a shift from traditional information provision to dynamic, technology-driven service environments. This article explores how emerging technologies—such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), big data analytics, and automation—are being integrated into library infrastructures to support smarter, more responsive services. It highlights the evolution of libraries into innovation spaces that facilitate learning, creation, and collaboration through services such as makerspaces, multimedia labs, and digital curation platforms. Drawing on current literature and global best practices, the article outlines how libraries can design user-centred ecosystems that anticipate and adapt to changing user needs. It also considers the challenges posed by technological adoption, including ethical concerns, digital divides, and policy constraints. The article concludes by proposing a framework for libraries aiming to transition towards a Library 4.0 model—one that is agile, inclusive, and anchored in the principles of technological convergence and social impact.
